Connection to Catcher in the Rye

I connect with Holden in that he enjoys reading. I too enjoy to read. Holden keeps his love for reading rather secretive though. He claims to be illiterate. I think he keeps in secret because it would ruin his image if people found out that he liked to read. Holden likes to sound tough. I dont really care if people think im stupid for liking to read. Liking to read may make me sound kind of nerdy, but it is who i am.

    I could connect with that as well. i used to read quite a bit, tho that was back when i had an AR goal.

    It's okay Abby, I love to read too :) I think another reason Holden doesn't want people to know how much he enjoys reading is because then teachers would expect more out of him.

    I think the unread and the people who mock the readers of the world are the stupid ones. In most cases, literally. I never read a bunch when I was in high school, but I enjoy it now. Hard to impress upon youths the joy and purpose of reading, usually something you have to find our for yourselves.
